Reductil
Reductil (sibutramine) is prescribed for patients with excessive weight that increases the risk of developing other medical conditions, such as high blood pressure and diabetes. Take Reductil once a day unless your doctor recommended doing otherwise. You are supposed to lose at least 4 pounds in the first 4 weeks of the treatment. If you lose less – please contact your health care provider and report this problem, as your dose may need to be adjusted. This medicine can cause drowsiness and affect your clear thinking. If you need to be alert and concentrated do not take Reductil, or make sure it does not cause any side effects in you. Talk to your doctor about taking Reductil safely and combining it with alcohol and caffeine – both have been reported to worsen side effects of this drug. Other side effects that are considered to be mild can include: heartburn, painful menstrual periods, change in appetite, back pain, dry mouth, constipation, insomnia, flushing, flu-like symptoms, nervousness, weakness, runny nose, and headache. More serious side effects that are quite rare can sometimes include: eye pain, depression, sore throat, shortness of breath, vomiting, pounding heartbeat, unusual bleeding or bruising, itching, lightheadedness, change in vision, nausea, stomach pain, anxiety, restlessness, chest pain, fainting, muscle stiffness, dizziness, confusion, seizures, and hoarseness. The dose you are prescribed is individual and should not be shared with other people. Your may be started on a lower dose of this medications, and it can be increased by your health care provider but only after 4 weeks of the treatment. Your dose depends on a number of factors, including medical conditions you have or used to have. The following medical conditions are supposed to be reported to your health care provider and can affect the dose you are prescribed: seizures, cancer, liver disease, congestive heart failure, thyroid disease, stroke or mini-stroke, pulmonary hypertension, depression, glaucoma, bleeding problems, irregular heart beat, chest pain, heart attack, osteoporosis, any eating disorder, kidney disease, high blood pressure, Parkinson's disease, gallstones, and migraine headaches. Never take more of Reductil than prescribed, as an overdose is possible. The following symptoms of an overdose are supposed to be reported directly to your health care provider: headache, fast heart rate and dizziness. Do not combine Reductil with narcotic pain medicines, medicines for seizures, sedatives, depression or anxiety medications, cold or allergy medicines, muscle relaxers, or sleeping pills, as you can experience worsened drowsiness as a result. Other medications that need to be reported to your doctor in case of taking them or having such intentions include: lithium, narcotic pain medications, ergot medicines, antidepressants, migraine headache medicines, and tryptophan. Drug interactions should be avoided as they can affect the quality of your treatment.
